The Department of Biological Sciences and the Faculty of Science at the University of Alberta is looking to fill the position of Chair, Department of Biological Sciences. Candidates must be existing full-time faculty members who have a tenured appointment in a relevant field at the University of Alberta.? The starting date is July 1, 2019.

The Department of Biological Sciences (www.ualberta.ca/biological-sciences) offers vibrant research programs encompassing all aspects of the biological sciences. It offers an outstanding research environment with access to support facilities, with an academic staff complement of ᄈ professors and a support staff team of ჾ people in administrative and teaching and research support roles. It has over 240 graduate students and offers honors and specialization undergraduate degrees.? The Department runs a large number of research service units, (e.g., Biogeochemical Analytical Service Laboratory, Molecular Biology Service Unit, Microscopy Facility, Bio Stores, Fabrication Lab), and is home to nine museum collections actively used for research and teaching (e.g., Vascular Plant Herbarium, Malacology, Vertebrate Palaeontology).

Applicants must have demonstrated management and leadership abilities and a vision to strengthen the department's national and international reputation. The ideal candidate must have demonstrated experience and leadership in fundraising, external relations and revenue generation. The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline and will have a distinguished academic record in teaching, research and service, including an established funded research program.
